The Education and Training team will inform, train, and educate people about proven energy saving strategies and technologies whether they design, own, construct, maintain, or occupy buildings.
A wide range of educational activities must be undertaken to support increased energy retrofit development and execution. The focus of EEB Hub efforts will be on associate degree level technical training in energy efficient building technologies and systems with special initial emphasis on training for building operators and building energy auditors. The EEB Hub will also create education and outreach programs to establish pathways from secondary schools to post-secondary programs, and will help to improve professional energy retrofit training at the baccalaureate degree level and beyond. In pursuing these activities the EEB Hub will work with educational institutions and workforce development organizations including those of organized labor throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
Energy Efficient Workforce Development and Training
This project team will develop and deliver technical trainings for secondary and post-secondary educators, commercial building operators, building commissioning/retro-commissioning agents, facility managers, building technicians and building energy auditors with emphasis on credentialing via existing, emerging, or Penn State derived certificates.
Future Building Energy Workforce
This project focuses on K-12 students and energy efficient building systems.
The Sustainability Workshop
The EEB Hub is a founding sponsor of The Sustainability Workshop, a project-based learning school for 30 high school seniors selected from high schools throughout the City of Philadelphia and located at the Navy Yard. The school is led by Simon Hauger, a certified educator who previously ran the automotive-focused EVX Team at West Philadelphia High School. The Philadelphia EVX team successfully competed with teams of high school students from across the country in a national hybrid car competition and was recently invited to the White House.Read More
